Whether you have been living with Type 2 diabetes for a long time or you are newly diagnosed, having the most up-to-date knowledge is vital for you to manage your diabetes in your day-to-day life. Diabetes UK provides education, assistance and guidance to anyone living with or are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

It can be scary when you are first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and whilst you are likely to have been given information and help from your GP you may still have many unanswered questions and worries about moving forward. The Diabetes UK website offers a range of services that provide you with the support you need as well as a helping hand with some other areas that might not have even crossed your mind:

  • All you need to know about Type 2 diabetes
  • Interactive learning zone
  • Diabetes UK ‘in your area’
  • Recipes
  • Other people’s stories

Whilst the website provides support for people that already have diabetes, it also offers a large section dedicated to the signs and symptoms of diabetes, risk factors, and how to reduce being at risk. As well as several articles to advise who is at higher risk of getting Type 2 (for example your lifestyle or even your ethnicity), Diabetes UK also offers a Know Your Risk Tool to assess everyone as an individual, and then advise them on what factors in your life can be changed to reduce your risk, such as meal plans, advice on becoming more active, and managing your weight.

“One of the great things that Diabetes UK has done is put me in touch with a whole host of people who have learned to embrace their diabetes and work round it as opposed to fight it.”

Sandeep Chauhan

To find local support you can simply visit Diabetes UK and use the In Your Area tool, or search by your post code on the home page of the website and it will advise you of your regional Diabetes UK office, or give you a list of the 5 closest local support groups to you.
