Following the announcement of social distancing recommendations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, group-based face-to-face delivery of programmes is no longer in line with government advice. As such, group-based face-to-face services will stop from Friday 20 March 2020.

What are some of the benefits of diabetes education programmes?

Examples of structured education courses include: Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) for Type 1 diabetes, Diabetes Education and Self-Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed (DESMOND) and the X-PERT programme for Type 2 diabetes.

There is such convincing research behind the effectiveness of structured education programmes for people with diabetes, that the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends they should be offered to every person with diabetes and/or their carer at and around the time of diagnosis, with annual reinforcement and review.
